GCI Health has shifted former West Coast lead Edie DeVine to the role of U.S. director of medical and health technology, a newly created role.

DeVine is overseeing the specialist firm’s medical device and health IT client work and is responsible for growth in that area. She will continue to be based in San Francisco. GCI’s health IT and medical devices clients include Abbott, Eccovia Solutions, and Qiagen.DeVine is reporting to CEO Wendy Lund and North America president Kristin Cahill.

“This is an offering we’ve been building for a number of years,” DeVine said. “We’re seeing more medical device and healthcare companies going beyond their specialties, and traditional and tech companies looking for ways to do more in healthcare, like Amazon and Apple in the past few weeks.”

The agency has filled DeVine’s previous role of West Coast market leader with Elliot Levy, who was an SVP in its Los Angeles office. He is overseeing the firm’s clients and growth in LA, San Francisco, and Denver. Levy is managing about a dozen staffers in GCI’s West Coast offices.

Both started their new roles last week.

Prior to joining GCI Health in 2010, DeVine worked at WeissComm Partners and Progenics Pharmaceuticals.Levy began his career at GCI Health and worked at Edelman and Cohn & Wolfe before returning to the WPP healthcare specialist firm in 2013.

In May, GCI launched an office in Washington, DC, led by Tori Fort, in an effort to expand into health public affairs and policy. It also opened its doors in Philadelphia in January.
